Dr. Paul Turke Featured on Modern Wisdom Podcast
How did humans raise kids 1,000 years ago? Today’s parenting is all routines, data-driven insights and what the latest research says. But what can ancient wisdom teach us about parenting, and where might it call our modern methods into question?
Expect to learn how child rearing might look different if parents were educated in evolutionary theory, what the evolutionary role of grandparents are, and why it matters for raising kids today, Where babies would have slept ancestrally, why toddlers wake up at night, throw food, or act out and why might those be smart behaviors, what parents should know about “normal” child development from an evolutionary view, what we can we learn from cultures that co-sleep, breastfeed longer, and parent together and much more…
Caring for Newborns to Young Adults

Support for All Ages
Turke & Thomashow Pediatrics provides quality healthcare in a small office setting for children ranging from newborns to young adults.

Personalized Care
Your child will be seen by one of our three pediatricians, who work together as a team. Paul Turke, MD, PhD, Suzanne Thomashow, MD, PhD, and Kylene Willsey, MD, are all board-certified pediatricians. Drs. Turke and Thomashow are the founding physicians, and both have over 20 years of pediatric experience. Dr. Willsey joined Turke & Thomashow Pediatrics in 2025. Her residency training was at the University of Michigan. She has been a pediatric provider in the Ann Arbor area and in Austin at the University of Texas and has over 8 years of pediatric experience. We also welcome Natalie McHugh, a talented provider, to our practice. Natalie is an NP with 8 years of pediatric experience who has also taught nursing at Concordia College.

Service Area
We serve Dexter, Ann Arbor, Chelsea, and surrounding communities, including Brighton, Howell, Stockbridge, Whitmore Lake, Ypsilanti, Saline, Jackson, Grass Lake, and Manchester.

Same-Day Appointments
We offer same-day appointments for sick visits, injuries, and other urgent medical concerns. We also recognize the importance of scheduling child exams and conferences in a timely manner. Typically, physicals (including sports participation) and conferences can be scheduled at your convenience with very short wait times.

Our Nurses
The nurses at Turke & Thomashow Pediatrics are also dedicated to your child’s health and assist in many aspects of care, including rapid referrals to specialists. In addition, our nurses are available during office hours for questions and advice. After hours and on weekends, our physicians are available by phone; simply call the office phone number, and the on-call physician will be paged to your number.

Newborns
We welcome newborns to our practice, including both hospital births and home births. We ask that all newborns be seen in the first week of life. Newborns hospitalized for extended periods will be scheduled for an initial visit a few days after discharge.

New Families
New families, including those with older children, are also welcome to join our practice. We support your child’s growth and development, provide preventative care, and provide anticipatory guidance at well-child exams. Well-child exams are essential and required for all patients at Turke & Thomashow Pediatrics.

Vaccinations
We recommend vaccinations according to guidelines established by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our vaccination schedule is coordinated with our well-child exams. These visits are opportunities to learn about the health benefits that vaccination can provide for your child. Some parents, for a multitude of reasons, ultimately decide not to vaccinate or opt for an altered vaccine schedule. In these instances, we provide educational materials and ask parents to sign a vaccine waiver.
We warmly welcome your child to our practice.
Our History
Turke & Thomashow Pediatrics was established by Drs. Edward Curtis and William Graves in the early 1980s in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at the corner of Pauline and Stadium. Dr. Curtis then became a solo practitioner for the children of Ann Arbor in the 1990s and expanded to a second location in Chelsea, Michigan. Dr. Turke and then Dr. Thomashow joined Dr. Curtis shortly before his retirement in 2002. The practice was moved to its present location in Dexter, Michigan, in 2008, where we continue to care for established patients and new patients from Dexter and the surrounding communities.
